In order to communicate the issues and concerns of the Heiltsuk, and to enhance understanding of Heiltsuk culture and history by non-Heiltsuk people, the Heiltsuk Tribal Council has begun to produce the journal Heiltsuk Occasional Papers: A Journal of Social, Cultural and Environmental Issues.

The journal will be published irregularly on a wide range of topics. The first issue has been published in Spring 2001 and focuses on concerns regarding the marine environment.
